I just finished Snow Crash. It was rather good but not nowhere near Necromancer. Not having read very much cyberpunk I'm wondering what I should move on to, any recommendations?

OP here, sorry about the grammatical errors, it's late here.

I don't know bro, NECROMANCER was pretty good

I've read the whole of The Sprawl, I've been told his other work does not keep the same quality. I've also been told that Stephenson, with the exception of Snow Crash, tends to get too philosophical. Any truth in that?

Undead-punk is my favourite genre, Skeleton Crash is over-rated shit, however

Stephenson fucking LOVES the infodump. You know all those sections in Snow Crash where Hiro is talking to Uncle Enzo and Mr. Lee and explaining Rife's plan? Or when he's talking to the Librarian?

Imagine that, except longer and without any in-world reason for the explanation. If you're okay with this, definitely read the rest of Stephenson's books.

>> No.942966

this is a great book if you skip the sumerian shit lolol

>> No.942976

No go, the part where Hiro explains Rifes plan to Enzo, Lee and Ing was rather straightforward. The Librarian was the most annoying part of the whole book.

So in other words, no more Stephenson. Any other classics in the same genre?

>this is a great book if you skip the sumerian shit

fffffffffffuck

yooooooooou.

I don't like Snow Crash. I prefer The Diamond Age.

But I was really impressed with the way Neal basically implied that the Sumerian religion was the hacking of the Human Race, and that their gods were the first hackers ever.

Yes it was a very interesting theory, but the same point could have been made in one tenth of the text.

again, i love him, but neal stephenson, as a writer, is not given to terseness or economy of language

I'd like to get into Stephenson. Which novel would be a good start? What about The Diamond Age? I've read about Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon, but they don't really seem to be relevant to my interests. Any Suggestions?

I loved Snow Crash when I was in high school. I reread it a few months ago, and I couldn't believe how crappy it was, it's basically fanfiction level writing. I was really disappointed.

>> No.943039

I guess I too will give The Diamond Age a chance.

Pattern Recognition is possibly my favorite Gibson work (yes I recognize the importance of Neuromancer blahblahlbah). It is the most easy to relate to in this day and age though it is debatable whether it qualifies as cyberpunk.
