>In Japan, "NHK" refers to the public broadcaster Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai, but within the series, the main character believes it stands for Nihon Hikikomori Kyōkai (日本引きこもり協会?, "The Japanese Hikikomori Association"), which is a reference to the protagonist's claim of a subversive conspiracy led by NHK (the real-life broadcaster) to create hikikomori. While it mainly deals with the phenomenon of hikikomori, the plot also explores many other Japanese subcultures—for example: otaku, lolicon, and Internet suicide pacts.

Yeah it's a great concept and unique story about paranoia and isolation within society. A pretty pomo take.

there's only one good light novel, haruhi.

if you want to read an actual novel thats like nhk, read Dostoyevsky.

Kino's Journey is pretty good.

Unless you read them in Japanese,I don't see the point.

you mean Melacholy of Haruhi Suzumiya?

It's a short read, I think it's worth it. The anime adaptation is a little more fun, but a lot of that fun is also filler in the end.

I don't know if it's a light novel (I think it might actually be a good series), but Kino's Journey is great. I think a lot of /lit/ would appreciate it.

It's about this girl who travels around to these different countries, staying in each one for only three days. Each episode is a short, philosophical story.

Light novels are, with a very few exceptions, trash. Read manga. Or, better yet, fucking books.

yes, haruhi is actually decently written. also battle royale (although its not light novel in jp but it is in english)

everything else is autistic crap writing, like reading a book of greentext. the guy telling you to read them in japanese is a pseud, theyre shitty in japanese too

I never said they are worth more in Japanese in the literary sense.
Maybe you can train your language skills with it.
But how would I know.
I don't speak Japanese.

Haruhi triggered me by constantly switching between past and present tense. Just couldn't get past it.

And funnily enough, almost every non-trash LN has an anime adaptation, and since LN's are as barebones as one can get when it comes to literature, the anime is usually the best version of the story.

That anime hit a little too close to home for me.

Log Horizon novels are really great, and go into way more detail than any of the adaptations.
