like maybe if you read the book from an african perspective you can draw racism into this book since it does nothing to attack or refute the notion of Africa as a dark and savage continent, but you have to contextualize it within the time it was written in. It's a condemnation of colonialism which shows how the Europeans, who were cutting off the hands of blacks, executing them by sticking lit sticks of dynamite in their anuses, ect are every bit as savage as the blacks they claim to be civilizing are and that the biggest difference between us is the complex system of cruelty that we have developed compared to their simple tribal warfare.

Arab slaves were treated much better since they converted to Islam. There's a massive disparity in cruelty involved, not to much the fact that we didn't castrate them as you say and bred them as animals is precisely another reason why the American slave trade was worse, it perpetuated its evils exponentially by further treating people as livestock. Visit Dubai sometime. Half the country is run on slave labor. There's no lack of them in Saudi Arabia either, usually imported from India or Pakistan (not that there's a difference). It IS racist. that's what makes it so interesting. Conrad stages the dark continent of Africa as a foil to western imperialism and enlightenment values because the idea that these savages might share a common ancestry with us is quite literally too much for the colonialists to handle. It isn't actually a book about journeying into the heart of Africa, it's about the white man and his encounter with the darkness of his own heart. All the black people in the book are necessarily two-dimensional: they're manifestations of the subject's fragmented and chaotic psyche.
