Hey, /lit/. I want to start writing. How do I start writing?

You write.

You read.

You write and then you read.

Repeat.

"There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” - Hemingway.

Read, read so much that your friends begin to comment on it. Read so much that you cancel things and you cancel people and friendships and then begin to write what you feel.

And then write so incredibly much that you have to do it, that it becomes a drug. Write so much that you breathe in words and breathe out sentences. You must dedicate yourself, it is no hobby; writing is a serious craft and if you wish to become you good you must apply yourself.

It's a horrible post, it makes writing sound wholly painful and mystical.

It is an art form, after all. The Hemingway really sums it up, desu. Of course, writing takes practice, but the best writing comes from within, when you bleed.

So my enjoyment in its creation makes me a masochist? I don't think so, writing relieves my pain rather than adding to it.

If art is pain, why don't you just videotape yourself being tortured to death?

its good pain lad. its like lifting weights to gain muscle.
you feel struggle/pain doing reps but its worth it in the end to gain muscle/strength.

or even doing cardio and pushing your body behind discomfort when you start breathing heavy to increase your endurance.

That's what's meant by "bleeding", lad. Ease up.

>> No.9369934

You get enjoyment from lifting weights just as much as a writer gets enjoyment from writing, and the enjoyment is mental in both cases.

You don't do it for the pain, the pain itself isn't good, the things that accompany it are "good" i.e. enjoyable. You continue to lift weights because the physical exertion releases dopamine and serotonin as does the sight of your own "attractive" body in the mirror. The pain is only an indicator. Fuck's sake.

I know, I'm disputing this guy >>9369870 who reads it to mean "all art is pain."
