You could read The Kalevala. It's like a Finnish version of The Odyssey I suppose, although obviously written quite differently with how it moves along.

The Silmarillion also has that mythos feel to it and you'd probably really love it.

I'd like to add to the above the epic of Gilgamesh. It has some beautiful parts about death. Get the Andrew George translation and make sure you read all the fragments and the Sumerian poems too. If you want me I'll post a link.
