Has /lit/ played Planescape: Torment? The writing here is honestly better than 99.9 percent of the shit youll stumble across in a library. Id definitely rank this in the actually good fantasy category with works like Book of the New Sun

Thanks for proving you havent actually played Torment. I normally play games because theyre the complete opposite of reading books, getting to appreciate the mechanics, graphics, audio etc etc. Torment surprised me with how it basically is a book with shitty gameplay, and an actually good book at that. Pic related is also from one of "these" games that curbstomps basically every not-godtier fantasy work.

Well yeah sure, but only because the shit you stumble across in a library is -- shit.

It's not up there with BotNS, but it is a game with an actually good story. And the gameplay is its CYOA-ness, btw, not the combat (some people actually liked the combat, apparently).

I will say that's a fucking good cover though. Way braver than any of the shit you normally see.

I used to think that Soul Reaver's writing was the shit but I'm not sure anymore.

I played Planescape when I was 14 or so, just like all other infinity engine games and both Fallouts. I'm so sorry you never grew out of digital toys.

Yes, better than the shit YOU will stumble across in the sort of library you're liable to frequent. Much better. And for all that, it is still bad writing.

Why would I want to "grow out" of any medium? How pretentious can you be?

Ironically this post reads exactly like the sort of thing the Nameless One would say.

The prose is pretty bad. It's what you'd expect from any genre book -- compare it to BotNS (with its good prose) and you'll see what I mean. The rest is decent IMO -- not comparable to the Western Canon, obviously, and that is a valid thing to compare it to, BUT it is an actual story with actual themes and actual value.

I did not seek to stop enjoying videogames, it's just so happens that at some point most people stop finding pixelated monsters amusing. The umbrella term for it is 'growing up'
