Why are all obscurantist philosophers such materialist degenerates? You think that some of them would take the leap of faith but instead they chose to engage homosexuality on a regular basis and decry the obviously spiritual dimension to whiteness and masculinity.

Your initial question is loaded-on-purpose; on the contrary, Foucault is pretty readable to begin with, and not as obfuscatory as, say, a Derrida.

Something relevant to the loaded-ness of your thing: I once saw it claimed somewhere on this site that Foucault confided to someone (or in an interview, etc) that he himself really wished that he could be even more straightforward with his prose and presentation, but that French academic culture simply and absolutely required its people to be just a little too "cute" and "complex", to keep up appearances. Thus, if the anecdote is really true, then some of Foucault's writing style could be down to his drive to keep competitive in the French academy where he was raised, spent his life, and dwelled.
