Psst....kid...wanna read some Jung?

And Jung, you know, he talks about the subconscious. Well, guess, what, bucko! That's God!

And what do you find in the subconscious? Well, I'll give you a little example. We all know the story of Adam and Eve in the garden, that's a walled garden, you know, the ideal human environment, nature and civilization. But in that garden there lurks a snake! Now what is the snake? You might think it's just a predator, the unknown. But the subconscious is going to tell you, it's a penis! A huge reptilian penis! And you think, wow, by God, that's quite a feat of the imagination! That took the West two thousand years to figure out! It wasn't until Freud!

I think you've got it backwards. Zizek is very characteristic of a typical professor, however that means that he also has this typical professorial stupidity. Idk how to call it, maybe people who have been exposed to academia will now what I mean.
Peterson comes off as more intellectual than a professor, if that's even possible. The vibe he gives off is of a person that he sits in his field so well, that he is a like a virtuoso in his lectures. Sometimes speaking metaphorically, sometimes not as strictly as needed and that is why perhaps people have trouble understanding. He just knows too much, and skips over parts that he finds obvious.

Most Marxists hate anything with even a slight hint of esotericism.

I don't quite get it. I'm a Marxist myself and I find a lot of useful ideas in esotericism for Marxist analysis.

The problem is a lot of them are crypto-authoritarians. So they love the legalist coup d'etat takes on metaphysics a lot more than religiosity in its liberating form.
They rather court shit like Islamic theology than ever have a look at alchemical texts.

Sure why not? The thinkers in the canon often have vastly different conceptions of reality, some of them completely mutually exclusive.
Zizek is extremely well read and if he decides a certain perspective is fundamentally bullshit then that's his prerogative

And my God, you see it everywhere. In Harry Potter the basilisk is a strongly phallic symbol, it's Harry's teenage sexuality, it's frightening him and he has to internally fight it. Male and female sexuality, family, that's what it's all aboot. Now these bloody neo-marxists want to destroy all sexual identity, let me tell you that's the road to hell, I've studied totalitarian regimes and that's what I'm seeing right now in the gender-neutral toy sections.

He's right about clumsily executed literature. I invite you to try to find a symbolic phallus anywhere in Tolstoy, for instance. Immature writers make sexuality symbolic; mature writers talk about sexuality.

I mean, you could make an argument that Napoleon is a metaphorical penis metaphorically raping the metaphorical vagina of the fertile Russian west, but that's not supported by the text i.e. wrong.

Not it's not. JP would never reduce anything to sexuality. That text reads like some Freudian.

Jung was an intellectual middle-weight compared to Freud, mostly a reaction/extension. And the notions of lamarckian inheritance of psycho-social traits is even a bit nazi-ish for modern American conservatives. And that says a lot.

Perhaps genes explain the difference in the cognitive endowments of the two. Freud was the ubermensch jew to Jung's untermensch protestantism. Or that's what Jung would say, most likely.

His work on dreams? Yeah it's not bad, but can we just be real for a second and admit anyone with any self awareness and intrigue to their own dreams could identify the same patterns and come to the same conclusions as one of the most famous academics? And also, can we talk about JUST how wrong some of his work was? The book on human comedy (can't remember it's title) is one of the biggest jokes in psychology (perhaps he wrote it ironically).

Yes which is why his conclusions and personal analyses are merely historically contingent. His importance is in establishing a descriptive framework for understanding the unconscious mind
