I think you've got it backwards. Zizek is very characteristic of a typical professor, however that means that he also has this typical professorial stupidity. Idk how to call it, maybe people who have been exposed to academia will now what I mean.
Peterson comes off as more intellectual than a professor, if that's even possible. The vibe he gives off is of a person that he sits in his field so well, that he is a like a virtuoso in his lectures. Sometimes speaking metaphorically, sometimes not as strictly as needed and that is why perhaps people have trouble understanding. He just knows too much, and skips over parts that he finds obvious.

I bought a copy of Aspects of the Feminine last year. Some interesting essays in there, a lot of early sociology. I thought it was interesting in particular that he said in a loving relationship one partner is always the container of another. Completely unfalsifiable claim but interesting concept.

There's a very good book on Hegel and Hermeticism.
And I find a LOT of Lacan's ideas are eerily similar to what you read in some of the more left hand path texts out there. Especially his notion of the Real. Sadly, don't think many scholars versed in both Lacan and these texts have connected the dots.
