Aristotle rejected Plato, Avicenna rejected Aristotle, Descartes rejected all prior philosophers, Kant rejected Hume, Schopenhauer rejected Buddha, Heidegger rejected Husserl, and Wittgenstein rejected Russell. It's not universal, but the greatest philosophers tend to be responding to the brilliant errors of their forebears.
