Old testament or New Testament? I'll focus on New Testament since the old testament is only packaged with the New Testament as a tenuous reminder of Christianity's origins in Judaism.

If by "historically accurate" you mean most faithful to the original oral tellings of the Christ myth which predate the gospels ... then I imagine you would want to learn 1st-century Greek and read the oldest papyrus fragments we have on hand which were owned typically by rich literate people in the second century.

But if by "historically" accurate you mean confirming your modern biases with the most appropriate interpretation of the myth, then I am at a loss for words.
