Do you think reading literature has made you an intellectual?

>> No.9135606

Not to other readers, no.

But normies and plebs think I'm a goddamn genius.

Up at the club, explaining to bitches what Raskolnikov means gets them all hot and bothered.

You should stop bothering them.

Quite the opposite, it has made me realize my knowledge deficiencies are grievous.

But as I tell my daughter, there are two types of people, those who read and those who dont. And you can tell the difference immediately.

>> No.9136366

Yes and No; but the realisation of either serves both to cherish and hold with contempt the present.

>> No.9136371

no, I am just parrotting what I read on 4chan

Yup. When I told myself I wanted to start reading to "expand my intellectual horizions," I though I was gonna see the world in a different light. I did alright. I became more insecure in my abilities, and I realized that a lot of the important works of the world have a tint of sadness to them. Perceptive and insightful? Yes. But a lot of them - if you read sincerely - bled the author's blood and it got in your eye, too. idk. I had no idea I would have felt this way once I started up but so it goes, I guess.

>> No.9136498

No. Literature after all is the conscious or unconscious pursuit of vanity - it has no bearing in day to day life. But damn me if it dont get me all euphoric and shit about, easily my favorite thing in the world.

I love being a reader, and I love being a writer. I do believe it makes me smarter, but I wouldn't go so far as to call myself an intellectual, especially because most of what I read is historical fiction and books about real history. If anything, based on what I read, I'd at best call myself an amateur historian or a history aficionado. Bernard Cornwell is my favourite author.

Nah, I feel like a dumbass.

It made me a professional dilettante.

The really sad thing is that it STILL makes me smarter than 99% of those whomst'd've I encounter in daily life.

I don't just think it. I know it.

Reading is fun, though... or at least it can be, depending on what it is you're reading.

>> No.9137130

No, I think being an intellectual makes you want to read more.

I know plenty of people who are well read, who I would never consider an intellectual.

intellectualism is a big fat spook
