Do you just read books or do you read them, immediately reread them, read certain sections again, discuss them in person, and write about them?

Just reading them compared to the latter is like skimming sparknotes for 2 minutes compared to reading it.

I read them.
Only when I am very interested in understanding I do the autistic routine you outlined. So far I only did that with books concerning politics, law and religion.

Ill reread chapters/passages that activate my almonds. Occasionally 5-10 times if it really resonates. I've read my favorite books 4 or 5 times.

There are too many books to read in the world to do that. The exceptions if I am reading a book for a course or in philosophy.
