You grew up on them, but when you got to uni all your professors called them cheap and masturbatory. Feels bad man.

I got into reading at university but I studied political science, not literature

>> No.907759

I studied math at university, so I never had that problem.

who the hell cares what the professors think

I don't talk with professors about this stuff. All college professors are dumb cocks.

This. Poe and Lovecraft have their issues as writers, but seriously, fuck any Prof who can't see the merit in either.

No, Harry, Ayn Rand is a terrible writer.

My second cousin studied maths at Oxford and got a Masters in it.

He fixes peoples computers and sits around smoking weed, wrenching on cars and drinking John Smiths all day. He lives with this hippy girlfriend of his in a shitty flat in Camden.

He knows he can make big money but he chooses not to. What the fuck is wrong with him?

I thought that was Louis Riel for a second. No joke.

Ayn Rand was the only author I've had a teacher bash. She felt bad for me when I tried reading The Fountainhead for some scholarship (didn't even get 100 pages in.)

Life of quiet contentment? I'm at school right now for North American Archaeology but I'd probably be just as happy working with my buddy who tears down barns and other rural structures for people, keeps the scrap metal to sell and hauls away the wood. You never know what you could find.

Well, and smoking weed all day would be nice too, because that'd be a factor.

It's all perspectives, man.

I bought Atlas Shrugged. It's incredibly boring. It's well written and obviously it's taken time, but it's possibly the most boring book I've ever attempted to read.

I'm about 250 pages in and whilst I understand it, it's not appealing in the slightest. There's no pace.

Get a job working on a Rez and you can do both at the same time

>> No.908545

I'm doing Chemistry.

Realised this summer I should be doing Chem Eng or ANY fucking sort of engineering. Or Actuarial Maths. Feels bad, man.

Anyway, you shouldn't give a fuck what your prof thinks, if you enjoy/enjoyed reading something then no one can take that away from you.

A friend told me it's like reading a slightly less dry economics textbook. No chance I'm ever picking that up.

The Ayn Rand scholarship? I tried to seriously consider it for that scholarship, because the money you get from it if you win is intense, but then I was just like... fuck it.
Also, what authors do profs typically call cheap and masturbatory? Just out of curiousity.

Ayn Rand... Scholarship...?
Is this a part of the new programs from the Ministry of Irony?

Seriously. Reminds me of the Gospel of Wealth though, and I wouldn't be surprised if she supported that.
