How do I read?

How do I approach a novel? A poem? Etc.

you use your eyes to look at the words

I wonder how many people have masturbated to Gerome paintings in the last +100 years?

I think that would be a reasonable question. You could get into discussions about what makes cinematography good, what to look out for (camera movement, lighting, themes), what a good general mindset to have going into a film was, whether it is more important to focus on plot, themes, technical work, etc.

I think there are probably more effective ways to approach reading that would mine out more value than others. I just don't really know what they are.
