What is the most you've ever paid for a book? What is the most you would pay?

50 bucks for La reserche by proust, all volumes in one

That's as far as I'm willing to go, if a book is more expensive than that I'll just pirate it

Seriously considering picking up a first edition Gravity's Rainbow at a bookstore near me for ~250 dollars.

£40 for this. I'd get it back if I wanted to sell it on.

I'd struggle to hand over 3 figures for a book.

Someday I'm going to pay 1000$ bucks for a replica of the voynich manuscript.
Someday.
I stopped paying more than 3 dollars for a book when I discovered second hand book stores. And then less when I bought a kindle and discovered calibre. I physically can't do it. I get panic attacks. It's awful. But I save so much money.

Yeah. You can pay 100$ for an okay copy, but some printing house got the rights to it, and made about 800 original copies, each page hand painted and everything. Ugh. Fuck me so hard.

Would pay under a grand for trauma treatises since the Crimean War or signed first editions of 20th century great works like listed in the modern Library

Paid a lot for some academic books I needed for course.

Aside from that spent about £50 on a signed first edition of The Handmaid's Tale and about £25 on shipping from canada I think roughly.

Would happily spend over a hundred if it was one of a few that I loved and read growing up and would still re-read and pass onto my kids etc. But would have to look and feel nice, just because its a first ed etc

currency in my country is fucked so is bad to compare but about U$ 33,00 for barnes & noble KJV.

>inb4 luxurious, tacky, pomo

just wanted a kjv with doré's illustrations, hard cover, thick paper and actually readable font-size. and also, the other 'regular' shitter versions of KJV I found were almost as expensive, so why not pay a bit more for something nice that will last my whole life and could be passed on to someone...

and its pretty comfy reading this edition
