Certain parts are interesting. Others are just long genealogies or dietary laws that are only interesting if you are a theologian. If you're reading it for literature, you should only read

>Genesis
>Exodus
>1 and 2 Samuel
>Psalms
>Job
>Ecclesiastes
>Song of Songs
>Isaiah (important parts)
>Daniel
>Jonah
>Gospels
>Romans
>Acts
>1 Corinthians
>Revelation

You'll have gotten most of the best parts and have had to endure a lot less of the dull lists and legal codes.

They continue and conclude the story in Exodus, you just gotta skip over the law bits.

Is this list good? I won't miss major points in the bible if I follow it?

I just started The Bible too(just started Exodus), reading mostly to understand themes and allegories etc in great literature, so I'm not looking to be converted(although if that would happen, fine).

Got Moby-Dick and The Master and Margarita collecting dust on my shelf, gotta get this bible read.

>I won't miss major points in the bible if I follow it?

Well... you might miss some. For example, the First Book of Kings has the story of King Solomon, which is major, but then it devolves into kings no one ever hears about for pages and pages and can be dull. Safest bet is to read every book, but ones you can almost certainly skip are

>leviticus, numbers and deuteronomy
Unless you're interested in Jewish religious laws, not much of interest in these
>1 and 2 Chronicles
Basically a retelling of everything before the book
>All minor prophets except Jonah (and maybe Hosea)
Some of the prophecies here are referenced in the new testament, but not enough that they're essential.

Just understand that you won't understand these themes/allegories on your first read through. The Bible is more of something to be studied over time, rather than blazed through in a month or two, if you're serious about learning (you'll be surprised how many people have terrible knowledge of the Bible) even if you're a fedora lord.
