What are some books on the concept and consequences of fame in the modern age?

I'm interested in writing about the impact of celebrity culture in an increasingly media demanding and post - modern world. Not in a kind of "lol fuck celebrities" kind of way, but an actual analysis into it.

I agree that a lot of modern celebrities do suffer from mental disorders, if that's what you're getting at. I should do some research into that

I hadn't thought of that, good idea. Whilst Bateman isn't a celebrity he is a good example of corruption through a consumerist culture. I have a general theme of celebrities being substitutes for gods in a postmodern world, so that might be helpful.
