I used to read on the train into work and I came in with a book (actually, I always did) which I'd stick in my bag as soon as I walked in. I was 20 at the time and working in a restaurant. Anyways, mgmt looked at me and became livid that I had walked into a server job with a book, hadn't even clocked in, just was holding the thing.

I'd have a look at novels such as Friedman's Capitalism and Freedom and Hayek's Free to Choose.

For traditionalism:

Traditionalist books to read

Aristotle, Ethics, Politics, Categories, Metaphysics
St Augustine, Confessions, City of God, Political Writings
Thomas Aquinas, Political Writings, Selected Writings
Hilaire Belloc, The Jews, The Servile State, Great Heresies, How the Reformation Happened
G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy Heretics
F. A. Hayek, Law, Legislation and Liberty, A Road to Serfdom
Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Gulag Archipelago
Alasdair MacIntyre, After Virtue, Whose Justice Which Rationality, Dependant Rational Animals

Dostoevsky isn't super rightist, mind you. He's just a Russian East Orthodox Christian that grew up under a monarchy and was skeptical of a change in government.

The obvious ones to read are:
Crime & Punishment
The Brothers Karamozov
The Idiot
Notes from the Underground

I would also recommend checking out Cormack McCarthy on whom Dostoevsky is a big influence. The Sunset Limited, No Country For Old Men, and Blood Meridian are all worth checking out and deal with moral themes that contrast Nihilism with traditionalist American moral values (I'll warn you though that those traditional values do not always clearly win in the novels)

I think though that anything made to be morally unambiguous is probably not worth reading.

Dostoyevsky wasn't "rightist" for his time, almost no artist is. You have to have compassion for all your characters. You need to know how people really think. All great authors need empathy, and people on the right tend to lack that.

First of all, he asked for conservative works.

Second, Marxist economics is important for its contribution to things like World Systems Analysis and critiquing the general implementation of capitalism.

As a cohesive theory of economics it is garbage. If I remember correctly, it attempts to asset that Labor input is the thing from which value is determined which is demonstrably false.

It has some good points against the assumptions and negatives of capitalism but offers no really feasible alternative.

Oh, don't worry, anon. I know this. It's why I made sure to tell the man that Dostoevsky was just a Christian that lived under a monarchy.

He deals with some conflicts if morality and philosophy between traditional and egoist values.

What I think is extremely funny about people considering Dostoevsky rightist is that the modern right seems to be the most on board for Raskalnikov-esque individual egoism.

Honestly, I never recommend reading layman books when it comes to things like econ. It's a technical field that requires technical information to understand. If you want to understand it, you need to put in the effort to understand how it's core systems and theories operate.

Most layman books will not really add any economic knowledge to the reader but instead give them a set of arguments for arguing logically when most real argument in economics is statistical and deals merely with what fits the data best.

You'd be much better served reading a macro or microeconomics textbook. People that want to "get rid of the Fed" or nonsense like that will go off on tangents about the business cycle not existing for days but I find that most can't even explain the core goals and mechanisms by which the Federal Reserve operates. That's basic shit you need to learn first if you want to argue economics without looking like an asshole.

Do not read Wealth of Nations. Adam Smith is important for historical reasons. His theories today are archaic, long winded and often outright wrong. We have learned a hell of a lot since Adam Smith and are much better at analysing data.

If you want you can read selections from it I wouldn't argue against that but I'm telling you that no economics course is ever going to have you read Adam Smith unless it is in some way a historical economics course.

He's responsible for the basis but almost no economist needs to read Adam Smith. Every important thing he came up with or explains in Wealth of Nations is explained better and more directly in contemporary educational materials.

While the "invisible hand" is a nice metaphor, it was created to introduce a new concept with an analogy. The way markets and distribution of goods work is today no longer a mystery and most laymen understand the forces of supply and demand.

He provided a framework and vocabulary but many individual arguments are wrong.

Economics is somewhat a science and a discourse. We have, as I said, come a long way since Smith. All you're doing by reading him is learning the basics of economic theory as illustrated with examples that are mostly incorrect or use primitive forms of analysis.

>MUH LABOUR THEORY OF VALUE
Which was created by Adam Smith. Marx was continuing the discourse of classical economics and pointing out its contradictions.

>Value "in exchange" is the relative proportion with which this commodity exchanges for another commodity (in other words, its price in the case of money). It is relative to labor as explained by Adam Smith:

The value of any commodity, ... to the person who possesses it, and who means not to use or consume it himself, but to exchange it for other commodities, is equal to the quantity of labour which it enables him to purchase or command. Labour, therefore, is the real measure of the exchangeable value of all commodities (Wealth of Nations Book l1, chapter V; emphasis added).

Value (without qualification) is the labor embodied in a commodity under a given structure of production. Marx defined the value of the commodity by the third definition. In his terms, value is the 'socially necessary abstract labor' embodied in a commodity. To Ricardo and other classical economists, this definition serves as a measure of "real cost", "absolute value", or a "measure of value" invariable under changes in distribution and technology.

Ricardo, other classical economists, and Marx began their expositions with the assumption that value in exchange was equal to or proportional to this labor value. They thought this was a good assumption from which to explore the dynamics of development in capitalist societies.

Other supporters of the labor theory of value used the word "value" in the second sense, to represent "exchange value"

The entire Scientific revolution. Done.

Capitalism breeds improvement through competition. Result: technological improvement.

Communism is a parasitic infection that kills the intelligent members of its society and then starves and subjugates the stupid ones. Result: millions of deaths in Lenin and Stalin's early 20th century Russia, millions of deaths in mid 20th century Maoist China and every other failed implementation of the same failed ideology.

The damage, the tremendous damage inflicted by Communism is still extremely obvious today. Why do you think people are shitting in the middle of supermarkets in China? Their entire culture was eradicated under Mao. Why do you think average Ruskies are so drunk, horrifically stupid and degenerate all the time?

Right wing ideology:
>MUH JEWS
>MUH INSIDIOUS CULTURAL MARXIST CONSPIRACY
>MUH INFERIOR RACES

Left-wing ideology:
> In the social production of their existence, men inevitably enter into definite relations, which are independent of their will, namely relations of production appropriate to a given stage in the development of their material forces of production. The totality of these relations of production constitutes the economic structure of society, the real foundation, on which arises a legal and political superstructure and to which correspond definite forms of social consciousness. The mode of production of material life conditions the general process of social, political and intellectual life. It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but their social existence that determines their consciousness. At a certain stage of development, the material productive forces of society come into conflict with the existing relations of production or – this merely expresses the same thing in legal terms – with the property relations within the framework of which they have operated hitherto. From forms of development of the productive forces these relations turn into their fetters. Then begins an era of social revolution. The changes in the economic foundation lead sooner or later to the transformation of the whole immense superstructure.

In studying such transformations it is always necessary to distinguish between the material transformation of the economic conditions of production, which can be determined with the precision of natural science, and the legal, political, religious, artistic or philosophic – in short, ideological forms in which men become conscious of this conflict and fight it out. Just as one does not judge an individual by what he thinks about himself, so one cannot judge such a period of transformation by its consciousness, but, on the contrary, this consciousness must be explained from the contradictions of material life, from the conflict existing between the social forces of production and the relations of production. No social order is ever destroyed before all the productive forces for which it is sufficient have been developed, and new superior relations of production never replace older ones before the material conditions for their existence have matured within the framework of the old society.

General decadence. In the private life: rise of amorality (or rather moral relativism), sexual promiscuity, breakup of the family, increase in the use of narcotics, increase in crime, increase in laziness, increase in general apathy, decrease of the sense of personal honor.

In society as a whole: decline of the arts (most obvious), economic and social problems due to the compound effects of the degeneration in the private spheres of life (a good example is the destruction of black communities in America after the 1960s).

Debt didn't matter, German economy was fully independent already. If they needed some raw material they traded it for industrial goods with nations like Brazil or Spain. It worked just fine, he laughed at kike's face and paid the price.

Thanks guys, I thought I was going to be bored today, but I've now managed to fill some of my morning imagining retards in turtlenecks rattling off lists of authors that will make them seem intelligent.

>Direct exchange of commodities is not what Capitalism is to Marx you idiot.
Yes it is you fucking faggot. Marxism is anti free market. Marx had a huge disdain for the self-employed petty bourgeois.

>In this example it would be instead of Bob paying Sam to fix his roof, Bob pays Piggy who gives a fraction of the money to Sam to fix the roof.
There is literally nothing wrong with that as long as Bob, Sam and Piggy are voluntarily engaged in this transaction.

In fact it might be much more efficient, as Sam thus doesn't have to waste time looking for contracts, as Piggy takes on that part of the job in exchange for a cut of the profits, meaning more contracts for Sam and thus more profits, and more roofs fixed increasing the general welfare of the population.

It's as if there was an invisible hand guiding commercial activity which directed it to increase general prosperity.

>Yes it is you fucking faggot.

Duh if you say something with enough aggression it makes it true. Capitalism as Marx describes it is a specific mode of production that rose to prominance in the 19th century not a synonym for market exchange.
It is predicated on the division between a class of people who have possession of the means of production (Capital- Hence Capital-ism) and those who must rely on recieving wages from them in turn.

Firstly, it works. Secondly, the study of economics is based on the scientific method. The study of "marxism" is based on the ramblings of an unemployed kike who lived 150 years ago and who was so dumb he couldn't even teach himself calculus.
