Already said but Rulfo is a must. His tale Macario is basically erotica about a retarded person who kills frogs, sucks tits and is once in a while stonned because people think he is possesed.

>Chin-Chin el Teporocho by Armando Rámirez

Is weird, it has a deficient technique but it's honesty makes up for ti. Is about the life in one of the most dangeous places in City of México. A wild ride about treason, sex, alcohol, drugs and fights with a broken bottle.

Augusto Monterroso is one of the best, he wrote fablesand microfiction. Alfonso Reyes is the Mexican version of Dr Johnson and Emerson, he even translated Homer. Gilberto Owen is one of our best poets, quite modernist but thoroughly enjoyable. Salvador Elizondo is also a great novelist and critic, greatle influenced by Joyce and Pound; he translated some of Finnwgans Wake. Rosario Castellanos is the Mexican female writer per excellence.
