Guys, if you knew anything about art, this is entitiled "The Intellectual" and what he is reading is basically a 1700s science magazine.

The artist intented the picture to convey the sense of bewilderment that many felt in that age of new ideas a discoveries.

Certianly writers end up using the same language and phrases, but when the story, characters, setting, rules of the world, etc. are near the same as the novels that have come before, that is too far.
