I've asked myself a lot whether Sammy boy is cultured or reads a lot. He's name-dropped a lot of stuff in the past, and his comedy seems a step up from what most people are doing. But other times, he comes off as a complete moron.

I think he does try to be cultured and well-read. But keep in mind that the guy is an art/film student (can't remember which), so it isn't really his scene. It's kind of like a worse version of Cliff from Better Than Food: he tries and that's admirable enough, but I don't think he can hack it quite.

Love most of his comedy though. Especially the Ted Talk and Ideas Man.

I think that's what Sam is trying to evoke in a lot of his videos, that there's an entire generation of people who have no motivation or goals or experience, who go to college because their parents told them it would fix their life. And when it doesn't, they smoke pot, they fuck, they waste their life away doing things that their friends or family told them they "need" to do, and before they know it they're 40 years old with a shitty job and a cunt of a wife and they have nothing to live for. That's just my interpretation though

This pretty much. Sam is on the same level as Jon Stewart, but instead of being steeped in sarcasm and the stand-up tradition, Sam is an ironist and a sketch comic. He's "smart" in the same way that Jon Stewart was "smart" as host of the Daily Show, but neither are insightful intellectuals nor comic geniuses.
