Just thought I'd check in. Pic related is a certified author of classics, up there with the best of them.

this man looks like he unironically self-describes as a legend on stormwind

idk who he is and i am too lazy to reverse image search

but he smells of soft and vulnerable manchild and a lover of albums bought from the counter at starbucks

i hate life anon
i hate everything

He's one of the few authors that write literary fantasy. Great author.

You don't know what literature is, then. The literary cannon is full of fantasy.

Sanderson doesn't care about our opinions because he isn't trying to write literary fiction in the first place. He's a genre fantasy author. Everything he cranks out tops the bestseller list and rakes in critical acclaim, and he can write his stories at a ridiculously fast rate. If I were in his position I wouldn't give two shits what a bunch of misanthropes on the internet had to say about me.

Critical acclaim? Literature gets critical acclaim for its content. Fantasy does not. Bye.

Kek. You're so out of touch it's hilarious. Fantasy novels receive acclaim across the board from the vast majority of sources. It's basically /lit/ and Harold Bloom vs everyone else here. I bet you think Harry Potter wasn't hailed as an instant classic too.

Just finished Warbreaker. I've also read WoK and WoR. He's formulaic but it works. Build world, establish magic system, put characters in moral dilemmas, have them work out their moral dilemmas as the tension rises, insert a few twists, characters are almost too late in working out their morality as the story builds to a massive twist/climax, good only just triumphs over evil. I'm looking forward to where he takes the Cosmere.
