I really wish that the cashier at Barnes & Noble would talk to me about the books I'm buying.

>> No.876704

Really? I usually wish mine would shut the fuck up.

>> No.876708

Last time I was at Barnes and Nobles it was to buy a compilation of De Sade's writings. I asked the girl at the counter to look it up, see if they had it. She types it in, and asks, "Is his first name Marquis?"
Uh... yeah. Just point me in the right direction, bitch.

I had the same experience.

"Do you have Kafka's diaries?"
"Who?"
"Kafka."
"How do you spell that?"
"K-A-F-K-A."
"Franz?"
"...yes."
"No, we don't have it."

I worked at a bookshop once. It's too busy for that kind of stuff. It might seems like there are no other customers, but the majority of the job is addressing/shelving/filing returns/ringing people about orders etc. Actual desk work is usually a pretty small part of it which tends to eat into the other things if you aren't careful.

No one said that, cunt. You're being a twat.

Not everyone has heard of every author. If you've never heard of de Sade, there's no fucking reason to assume that Marquis is not a first name. It's not Baron or Duke. It's fucking Marquis. It's not a well known title.

Stop being a pretentious whiny fuck.

The last time I bought something from Barnes & Noble it was on clearance, so it was 50% off. When I got to the register, they took another 15% off because I know someone's membership number. I gave the cashier a gift card which still had a few bucks on it, and my total came to 23 cents. I pulled out my debit card to pay (don't carry cash), and the cashier pulled a quarter out of her pocket and put it in the register instead.

It was a good day.

I'm a cashier at a B&N and I bet you are the kind of asshole who tries to strike up a conversation while there is a line behind you.

SPOILER ALERT: There are other customers and normal people appreciate being rung up quickly.

I actually mention the books someone is buying only about once every two weeks. And only about once a month do I exchange more than a sentence about them. When I do this it is to recommend something else because B&N is a goddamn business.

If you want to chat, find someone at customer service, they aren't under time constraints. Though, we will probably just tolerate you as you verbally jack off all over the copy of Gravity's Rainbow you will probably not buy and wind up leaving somewhere else for us to put away.

In conclusion, fuck you.

I'm not going to waste my time breaking it down, but none of the shit you listed was implied. At all.

OP never implied that he wanted the clerk to spend an inordinate amount of time talking books with him, nor is there any reason to assume he wants you to talk to him while there's a line.

Have you ever stopped to think that adding a little bit of personal touch to the exchange might go a long way toward upselling, you cantankerous cunt?
