If you then I have some bad news

Girls with mental illnesses are the easiest pickings. If you can't get a lit gf you have no chance.

Start or join a book club at your local library or elsewhere. Visit open mic nights at bars and the like. Go to readings, signings, openings, etc.

But most of all, don;t be afraid to talk to someone who interests you, even if its not a girl or a romantic interest. That chick had a really good poem she wrote and read? Go up to her and compliment her, ask her about her work. Artists are almost always willing to discuss themselves and their art. That guy in the book store buying a book you like? Tell him you like it and that its a good choice. Someone having a hard time choosing a good book? Make some recommendations. Chat with cashiers, clerks and patrons.

Read books. Write some. Get around people. Be friendly. There you go.

having a gf is not /lit/

paying for an escort every first thursday of each month, climaxing as fast as you can without caring for her, smoking a cigarette while you tell her about your novel, leaving before she can confess her love to you every time is /lit/

Girls who read only like Harry Potter, John Green, and romantic young adult dystopian fiction novels. If they are truly "/lit/" , they're either ugly or insufferable snobs. Chances are they prefer feminist literature or anything not written by a "dead white guy". This is all from one fucking literature class last semester and I already want to die.

Where do you go on from there? This has happened to me, when a girl who stood behind me in the queue said this to me while I was at the checkout.

Don't bother.
Even if she reads books, she will never be as literary as you.

My ex-girlfriend was very much into literature and philosophy and definitely an intelligent girl. However, she was a very psychologically unstable person, was very mentally abusive towards me both as a boyfriend and a friend, had frequent nervous breakdowns, a very destructive existential crisis (possibly fueled by the authors that she read and enjoyed wallowing in further), often suicidal, maniacal, depressive and had issues with anorexia and bulimia as well.

Of course, I'm not trying to stereotype girls or anything like that at all. But personally, because of those awful years (which, to be honest, are still going on, since I am still a friend to her despite breaking up a long time ago), I will forever steer away from any girl that reminds me of this. I've even steered away from literature and writing for a year or so, but I'm starting to regain my courage to be interested in stuff like this.

It is literally impossible to ask this to a stranger without being a creep, the girl will instantly be aware you just want to bone her.

I don't understand, how was she abusive towards you? Sorry I've only had a gf that lived with me one time and I was basically Sean Connery, so its hard for me to imagine how a guy could be abused by a girl.

It wasn't physical abuse, I guess I could just say that she was a huge asshole and a really bad person to me and it was hard to deal with it or escape it without being fed a lot of guilt and threats of suicide.

>>8748429
I guess I understand why I can sound stupid but it's hard to explain things like these. "As a result of the authors she read" could be misunderstood, I just wanted to say that she was overly sensitive and very pessimistic about everything and reading anything bleak or depressing would always force her into a crisis or a shit fit.
