Where do I start on poetry, /lit/?

Can I just go look up who are the greatest poets and read random poems or should I do this methodically?

Please give me some suggestions.

Just get a copy of the Dream Songs and go from there.

Stop being so poor and reliant on others.
Cheers.

Pound uses more Italian than Greek, desu - and (at least in the Cantos), an understanding of French is more important than Chinese to understand the meat of what he's saying; the Chinese characters are usually more like a melody, in which their meaning is just a rephrasing of what's being said in the main text (usually English).
That being said, a basic understanding of Chinese history is pretty helpful for the fifth decad Cantos.

Robert Herrick is a pleasure to read. He doesn't have anything to say about his miserable childhood. (Since he was rich, he probably had an idyllic, honey-soaked childhood anyway.)

John Ashbery.

He's not referring to the Cantos. He's paraphrasing Pound's advice from ABC of Reading, I believe

Ohh... I should get around to that.
