Animal Farm is actually a far superior book to 1984. It has virtually all the same ideas, but expresses them in a more concise, simplistic and articulate manner. All the famous concepts from 1984 are here - doublethink, manipulating memory/the past, being at war with an ambiguous enemy, putting all their resources in a useless project (in 1984 its the war, in animal farm its the windmill)

what purpose does 1984 even serve?

1984 is for those who want a more "relatable" feel for their dystopian reads
Also Animal Farm is more of a historical dystopia than a contingent one
