memes are the modern philosophy. they have surpassed traditional and obsolete communication methods like books or essays, they skip the conceptual stage and leap fully formed into the collective consciousness in a genuinely organic and truthful way. its about the ideas, the way of life, a perspective on the world and the best thing is that its open and available. you dont have to read dusty tomes for hours and hours to find these ideas and opinions, they're everywhere on the internet for even the most normie to find, and so memes impart their truth on a much more equal basis. gone are the days of cloistered and privileged academics in their ivory towers hoarding thought - now anyone can read memes. through memes, equality in truth. just look at the rare pepe phemenon; many people see it and go, "oh, how dumb, they are just jpegs how can they be rare" but if you know memes you know it's more deeper than that. it's an emotion pepe evokes in you. you see a pepe you havent seen before, you right click and save to a folder you made just for him. others can't see the value maybe, but you can. pepe shows you the purity of intrinsic value in albeit simplistic pleasures in an increasingly corporate and materialistic world of flash; pepe shows that its ok to push back against a society of people that demand a sleeker phone, a bigger tv, or the fastest cars. to these people, they see a cartoon frog, but to us, we see something beautiful, something rare, even.

so never doubt the power of memes, they teach you things about the real world, and love, and pain, that you might not see otherwise.

happy bonfire night you lovable jabronis <3

lots of contemporary philosophy is loweffort and meaningless crap, just as lots of contemporary memes are loweffort and meaningless

in time, the truly great memes will shine through and be remembered, just like the truly great philosophers were.

Does anyone think that memes have sped up the encroachment of post-modern ideology in mainstream culture? The rare pepe phenomenon is actually a good example: the absurdism inherent in it is in contention with the rather serious commentary on capitalism. It is more than standard satire, because by its nature it is cooperative. Anyone can collect rare pepes. Anyone can play the pepe market. It is satire, yes, but it includes an element of audience participation and absurd tongue in cheek play acting that is thoroughly postmodern in character. There are plenty of other examples: Shrek is a good one, as is Harambe. Thoughts?

people that are so incapable of breaking the guise of irony and so depressed that everything they do is experienced through memes, all banding together to fuel their problems through the internet instead of making any attempt at resolving their issues

tight :^)

God, please wipe out humanity. We don't deserve this existence.
