Can we have an advice thread? Not a critique thread, but one where you post any advice, observations or personal rules you have pertaining to the craft of writing-- be it short story writing or poetry or whatever.

I believe you should not have to explain your book, or story, after the fact. With enough study and time a reader should be able to discern everything you've put into it.

This is one of my problems with Joyce, incidentally.
