i think if you swap the home lives here it's actually stronger. lots of middle class secure homed liberals kind of hate the disadvantaged in practice while defending them so long as they're only hypothetical.
labour in the uk is a good example: all the working class left it and the middle classes thought "good they're all racists and ignorant".

i think you've got this wrong. they'll consider him a hypocrite if they pick up on it, but that just allows them to judge him, which is their favourite hobby despite claiming liberalism. it's unlikely all of them will pick up on the hypocrisy though, even though they love calling hypocrisy.

it's like with the white women thread's Gillian Flynn suggestion: every girl I know who likes the cool girl speech likes it because they think they're the only girl who isn't faking their hobby. they hate the other gamergurlz, because they think they're imposters, but they lack the self awareness to realise this is a projection and what they're saying is "i don't believe any woman does these things out of joy, they all do them to trap men, except for me, because i'm the only real person even though i secretly hate all my hobbies i talk about to men". they recognise other people as narcissists because they can't conceive of anyone not being a narcissist. they'll never admit that's a narcissistic projection, or that the only reason they'd be interested in something is to trap a male.
non-narcissistic females don't think "that has an end goal" like the ones who complain about the cool girl; they think "lol why would you fake a personality, there's no reward for that effort" or "maybe you're reading too much into people liking junk food, gillian?"

same for liberal college males. they tend to be some of the most racist and sexist people and project it all on to other people. plop them down in a ghetto and they'll act like they're surrounded by subhuman animals. most consider their own thoughts elite and consider it their duty to help the subhumans see how they're right.

which is pretty fucked because basic true liberalism can't have that kind of judgment. you gotta let the racists mouth off and celebrate their viewpoint as much as the antiracists for that.

That's a pretty broad set of people, even within the liberal arts major stereotype. Is your character angry about his privledge? Ashamed? Secretly happy? Does he even care? What does he want to do? Is he wealthy? Etc.

There are a lot of ways you can play this. You should figure out other details about your character before, or else you're just writing a stereotype. Chances are you'd write this character similar to how you'd write most other college students, you'd just touch on social issues in more detail.

hah, that's sort of true. i know a lot of these people and really wish i didn't, because i'd like to believe someone knows what liberalism involves but most of the people who think they do think it involves not being allowed to say certain things, and having a ruling authority. i don't know how we got here, but it's disappointing.
