Why the fuck would you take a creative writing class? That's like taking a "Eat Eachother's Shit" class. You're signing up to eat shit and force people to eat yours.

Anon...

Creative Writing class is just a /r/writingprompts training camp, so I don't know what you expected.

This isn't a creative writing class specifically. It's a "add an extra chapter or retell a scene in a different time period" assignment in a literature class.

But even for academic essays, peer review is the exact same experience.

>having spelling/grammar errors in your work

A part of having rough drafts that get peer reviewed is to weed these out. It's just that nobody is ever willing to discuss any other elements of what makes something good or bad.

>Giving out creative writing assignments
>Specifically say, "Ok, I don't want you guys to write stories about a college student wandering around a campus, or characters who are obviously you, doing what you do all day. Have a character, that's very different from you, have a story that's different than your life."
>Assignments turned in: 80% stories about college students wandering around campus.
>B-but...professor, I know you said not to, but this is more than that, the character is like contemplating deep things while wandering around the campus. It's all done in metaphor, or simile...or something.
>Ok faggot, what deep things are they contemplating, and tell us exactly how your metaphors show that.
>Uh...
>No, seriously, lead the whole class through it, explain to us.
>You....you're just all morons!!! You don't understand my genius!!!

Depending on where you are, it may be a requirement.

I live in California, and I had to take the equivalent to a creative writing class last semester.
