By theft. Back then it wasn't considered as bad to take existing works and rewrite or rework them for your own audience. Playhouses of 16th century London would be shitting out plays every two weeks sometimes, and nobody was going to expect someone to write a different play every other week. Shakespeare was simply the best guy around at the time for getting shit in order for a rapid succession of plays. Whilst his original creations and ideas are admirable, much of his work - like many authors of the time - is not original.

He stole his ideas from illiterate people, like all the greats did.

He's a linchpin of the West, specifically of Anglo-Saxon culture.

There will always be those who hate the West.

The "authorship problem" of Shakespeare is overstated. It's a small minority of scholars who doubt the typical attribution.

he actually reads those newfags

As far as anciency goes, I only read the Sumers and the Old Testament.

As far as quality goes, I sure as shit wouldn't read """"the"""" ""gReEEkSS'""" one/two-dimensional characters over Mr William Shakespeare"
