Why is Bleak House the most underrated Dickens novel? Its obviously his best.

Lets not pretend that any of the Dickens novels will ever bring the pleasure, feels, and awe of this work.

Probably because A Tale of Two Cities is his least parochial book.

Tale of Two cities has the best ending, Christmas Carol is consistent throughout the work.

A combination of the length (it's the longest of his works, I believe) and the name itself, I think. The name probably makes many think it's a dreary book, even though it's not.
It's perfectly balanced. Not coincidentally, it was published at the exact midpoint of Dickens' writing career, well after the initial exuberance of Pickwick but before the ultimate bitterness of his later years.
Also Esther is my litfu to the end

Nah, I still think Great Expectations is his best.

I prefer Biddy myself.

People love Bleak House. Murakami goes on and on about it in a couple of his books.

Our Mutual Friend is his best. So dark and based.

I'm still mad they missed the whole point of Miss Wade's characterization in the adaptation of Little Dorrit.

This is what happens when you got feminists adapting classic books, I suppose.

Bleak House has a Spontaneous Human Combustion occur, so points deducted for the author being a complete crackpot for believing in that bullshit

I've noticed that it is often assigned reading in universities. Bleak House and Hard Times tend to be his most taught novels... Bleak House for courses on novel theory and Hard Times for courses about social issues.

The fuck is that?

Like history of the novel and its forms. So you might have Don Quixote or extracts from Don Quixote followed by Pamela, then a little Austen, Dickens, Conrad, etc. with some critical theory. Usually the course is titled "The Novel" or "The English Novel."

This anon gets it. Our Mutual Friend is by far his best. Underrated.
