I hated the ending, it felt so rushed, summoning Joachim, then killing Settembrini, and Castorp suddenly leaving.

I wish Castop would have stayed for another 7-50 years, and I could have experienced every day with him.
I wish this book never ended and I could get TB and die with him in Davos

I actually loved the ending, the climax with Naphta felt really unexpected and came out of nowhere and the rest of the seventh chapter kind of felt like some slice of life novel, it was so positively meandering. Mann's attitude regarding Hans was very unsentimental though, you've really warmed up to that goofy bourgeois avec une petite tache humide at the end, even if he kind of just stayed an observer for most of the novel.
