You should pick a a book or two and start reading them. Continue lurking /lit/ while you are still reading them and write down the name of the books you see here that catch your eye. If the only books you find worth reading are LotR, Harry Potter and Song of Ice And Fire then you weren't meant to become /lit/erate.

yeah okay so what, i browse reddit. And yeah i'm proud of it. It's a community that is intellectual, insightful, diverse, pluralistic, informative and dialectical. There are many people on reddit and many different opinions. Just because you don't like the opinions of one part of the community, doesn't mean that it's all bad.
