Why has this novel's reputation lasted so long? Niven is good, but this was a horribly bad read.

what are your favorites from niven?

Mote in God's Eye its the best I've read from him. Ringworld in comparison is campy.

I thought Hogfather was interesting, it made some good points

Ringworld is absolutely campy, I agree

>cardboard characters
>no discernible plot

Niven clearly got stuck in worldbuilding and came up with a bunch of interesting locations, the plot progresses only so that Niven can describe those locations, and then it ends.

and he didn't even expand that well on it in the sequels. science fiction was naive in those days. somehow ringpulp won both the Hugo and the Nebula.

>> No.8341185

It was the idea of a ringworld not the novel itself that was praise worthy.

I'm glad to hear niven has better stuff. That shit was retarded in every aspect (retarded physics, retarded aliens, retarded characters plot and writing, ultra retarded sex scenes). I honestly enjoyed reading it, though, mostly because of that.

rectangle world was the shit though.
