About to start this. Any opinions? Is it worth it? I've heard many good comments about it.

her most recent book is one of the worst things i've ever tried to read. maybe the literal worst quote unquote 'literary novel.' literal harry potter tier.

>Implying Harry potter is bad
Yeah, ive heard her first works were top tier, but recently she has become very shitvery shit

It's my favorite book.

In Summary: part New Adult coming-of-age fiction, part literary homage. Tons of flowery, eloquently phrased observations from the narrator. The kind of absurdly attractive characters, homoerotic allusions (if you're bisexual you'll probably love it), and unrealistically tense melodrama you'd find in one of the more fun anime. Lots and lots of costume porn, and some over the top character driven humor, some of it very intellectual and referential.

It also has a lot of bad things happening to its gorgeous characters, which is a plus.

The main character is compared to Harry Potter a lot, since you mention it.

But it's really not a bad book. It's just kind of rambling like a diary, instead of a streamlined plot. A lot of crazy and suspenseful things happen to the character over time that don't all tie neatly together. But it's not a book that's about the plot, it's one about the characters and the impression they leave. Boris was a hoot and Mr. Silver was one of the most interesting bad guys in fiction.

Reading the blurb it sounded absolutely horrible. I skipped over it.

The Secret Doctrine is the comfiest, most /lit/ incarnate book I've ever read. I haven't been able to get into her other books but that one is fucking beautiful.

It is a masterpiece.

Wonderful book. Highly tragic and suspenseful, charmingly funny, and at times lightly gay.

God I want a young Donna Tartt to absolutely fucking rape me. I want the back of my throat to smell like her cunt for a year.

She is asexual, though she did once briefly date Bret Easton Ellis, whatever that means.

she kinda looked like Twin Peaks' Sherilyn Fenn when she was younger
