Can we all agree that Dracula is the worst gothic/fantasy/science fiction novel of the 1800s? The first third or so is good, but it goes completely downhill after that.

Why do you need others to validate your opinion?

It deserves merit for cementing the idea of the vampire in gothic and horror fiction. It does get really tedious by the end, and the journal format is gimmicky and infuriating.

I remember I read the book in an edition for children when I was about 6 or 7, and then the actual book a couple years later. The journal parts confused me a little but also it was the first Big Book I read. I am planning on re-reading all the books I read as a kid to reevaluate my opinion about them. I remember I really liked Dracula and I still remember some scenes from it very well

Frankenstein and Dorian Gray are miles ahead of Dracula. Do I have to read hundreds of shitty books to know that one is shitty?

>> No.8310519

It's a shame it does go downhill so much. The first part, probably up until just after the Count arrives in London is top tier spookiness. The castle scenes especially, obv

"No"

If you cant get through 300 pages of talking about earth boxes to get to the cinematic ending and the heroic last pages. Then frankly, youre a pleb.

"Dracula is the worst gothic/fantasy/science fiction novel of the 1800s."

you've only read three books in genre, my dude. do you understand why someone might dismiss the quoted opinion?
