All these threads suck.
Lets post what we are reading right now OK?
pic related.
It's really good.

I'm reading V. by Pynchon because tons of /lit/ people suggest him. It's alright, I guess, but I'm only about 100 pages in. It's kind of confusing so far, there's no cohesion to any of it.

I liked Notes from the Underground.

As for me, Hunger.

I'd say it's similar to Notes from the Underground, so if you like Dostoevsky's book, you'll probably enjoy Hunger.

The Iron Dream.

I like the concept, but the completely unapologetic hatred expressed makes it hard to believe that "Hitler's novel" was as popular as it supposedly was, unless we're meant to assume that without the Nazi Party and WW2, all that Antisemitism would still be boiling in the backs of everyone's minds.

I just can't imagine Americans in the 50s and 60s reading "Lord of the Swastika" and taking it seriously, even as pulp fiction. That being said, it's an excellent satire of the crypto-fascist values early pulp sci-fi demonstrated.

Anna Karenina. I can appreciate the fact that its this huge arching story with multiple interconnected plots and great charecterisation but I don't really like what it's fundamentally about or the themes it deals with.

I'm about a hundred pages in and really enjoying it. Sure, there isn't much of a plot, but the characters are really well-written and it's a fascinating look at a society extremely different from our own.

This was so hard to read, I couldn't finish it because it just felt like a teenage drama movie where the lead was just accidently sabotaging himself at every step in the most cringeworthy fashion.

I am also reading Murakami, "Kafka on the Shore" aren't you discouraged by the pop-culture references and the feelung of not getting anywhere?

I know what you mean, but even after the sexing, the pseudo-psychilogical persona he tries to build isn't good, it isn't bad eithet but still not pleasant or fullfiling in anyway.

>> No.831484

True. I was mostly just interested enough in it because of the sex to go on. It felt like a waste of time though after reading it.
Did you get anything out of the part where he goes into the forest?

>> No.831498

>>831463
I don't know about Kafka on the Shore, but in the Wind-Up Bird it makes sense that you're not going anywhere. That's just how the main character is. (also I love stories where nothing really happens, I cannot explain my love for it though)
I have no problems with pop-culture references, I feel like it's a necessity with any modern book. But it doesn't seem like it's going crazy with them or anything. There was a part where he mentions Michael Jackson playing on the radio, but I didn't feel like that made much of a difference

Actually I did, it was one of the most riveting parts I have read, (I am still missing 10chpts)

>>831498
As the book itself mentions it, when Ms. Saeki tells Kafka that she wrote a book about thunderstruck but with no conclusions, I am getting the feeling thia book is like that.

Anyhow. Good night, it is 4:12am in the beatiful mexican desert. So long /lit/.

Just finished The Master and the Margarita, and fucking LOVED it!

Now in the first 50 pages of Snow Crash, it's taking a bit to get into... Please tell me it gets better, so many of you guys here recommended it! It's reminding me of The Dresden Files for some reason, which I hated.
