What does 4chan/lit/ think of this book?

>> No.8275750

Physical copy too expensive; some faggot stole the one my library had; therefore I'll probably never read it.

I managed to get it for £15 after waiting a while for a cheap one to come up. I think that's a reasonable price, though obviously I have no idea what it's like in other countries.

There's another translation, two even I think, one is something Foam of the Daze, don't know what it's worth

Step your game up lad.
It got a reprint after the frogs made a movie with Tatou.

>mfw I just realised the green is a praying mantis instead of a string of snot and the black circle on the face isn't a gaping mouth but a nose

>> No.8276443

This got reprinted as Mood Indigo using the same Chapman translation few years ago.

Really ugly movie tie-in cover tho.

I don't understand how you can see any mouths or snot in that. I've always seen the bull + hand + praying mantis.

Use paint to visualize this for me?

Good catch. Honestly I don't care how ugly a cover is so long as the contents are the same and the price is reasonable.

I fucking hate it in retrospect, although in the beginning I was loving it and by the time I turned the last page I was like: yeah, okay, not that great but still nice. Maybe it's because I've read a lot more since then.

That quirky, playful, oh-so-funny surrealism that just serves to hide a moralistic story, sort of à la Vonnegut but sappier, has left a bad taste in my mouth, now that I try to remember (and I don't even remember how it ends). I wonder why it isn't a bigger hit with hipsters nowadays.

the main green of the mantis looks like it is being blown from the monster's nose
his actual nose in the scenario is just a big mouth

Sorry to shit up your "is that snot lmao" thread with my thoughts on the actual book, guise. >>8277100

The translation of the title is awful. If the rest of the book is translated as poorly it's not worth reading.

no idea how you could read this book in anything other than French
