Tolkien essentially encourages addiction through the narrative of LOTR. As opposed to lifting yourself above addiction you should keep your head down. Realize that your addiction is part of God's plan. That next plunge of the needle may lead to saving the world as we know it. That next cold one may be all the stands between chaos and order, right and wrong.

Just revel in your addiction and realize that it's all for the greater good.
