Which visual novel has the greatest literary value?

My vote goes to Chaos;Head with its "Who's Eyes are Those Eyes?" motif

Are there any genre defining, great VNs with a high quality english translation and some deviant eroticism

Probably the most defining is Fate/stay Night

i tried to watch umineko, it was such a poor attempt to have a seemingly supernatural detective... the author got entangled in his own mysteries and ruined it all eventually leaving without any plausible non-mystic explanation

something like carr's 'burning court' or even better 'three coffins' is so much better

also as a supernatural anime detective it's clearly worse than higurashi

I've only played Katawa Shoujo because I'm not a lonely Weeb and all I can tell you is that:

>Patrician Tier
Shizune
Rin

>Good Tier
Hanako

>Passable Tier
Kenji

>Bad Taste Tier
Emi
Misha

>"Oh Shit Nigger What Are You Doing?!?!"-tier

Lilly

Umineko has the best balance of campy anime nonsense and actual literary merit. It's not the most consistently enjoyable experience, though. Certain sections put you on the edge of your seat and leave you awestruck, and others have you tearing your hair out or bored to tears.

Switch Hanako and Shizune and I'll agree with you

On topic, I'm not sure I'd say any VNs have much literary merit, but my favorite has been Saya no Uta. Only problem is it's shorter than I'd have liked
