Hey /lit/, what're some really good post-apoc books?

WWZ barely counts. Looking for something with meat to it, WWZ was great but i need more.
Zombies aren't required but are always a bonus.

Children of Men was alright.

One of those very rare examples where the movie is better than the book. I loved the movie, went ahead and read the book, and it's barely alright. Just barely.

Yeah, I agree. But then again, that movie is a fucking masterpiece.

Canticle for Leibowitz is the best post-apocalypse (and pre-apocalypse) novel ever written.

People love the apocalypse. Especially zombie ones. Cracked at one point did a list(surprise!) on it that had some interesting points.

People want to see what's more resilient: the structure of society or humanity at it's simplest form.

A good short novel is Black Easter. It actually occurs during the apocalypse though.
You could probably read it in a day (I did, and I'm not a fast reader).

Suppose Metro 2033 deserves a mention although I'd hardly qualify it as "really good".

I enjoy many of Brian Keene's Books. The Rising/City of the Dead/Dead Sea/The Conqueror Worms all have that end of the world/zombie apocalyptic feeling to it.

Although they're meant for younger readers, I really enjoyed the works of Samuel Youd AKA "John Christopher." He wrote several books, at least two of which were trilogy series about post apocolyptic scenarios: The Tripods trilogy and The Sword of the Spirits trilogy. The former involves the enslavement of earth by aliens, and the latter religious oppression; both feature the rediscovery of old technology and the moral choices characters are forced to make while trying to refashion the world. The ethical content of the books is fairly deep as far as young adult novels go, and the main characters are both somewhat antiheroic.
