Latest one written by Sanderson regains a great deal of the momentum. Feels like the first few books again.

While it has nostalgia value since it was the first fantasy series I got in to, it falls behind A Song of Ice and Fire and Malazan Book of the Fallen.

how do these compare, maybe explain the general differences i want to start one or the other.
thanks /lit/

Start with Robert Jordan.

What you just linked is a fantasy version of Ayn Rand.

>> No.808978

If you're going to read a fucking 5,000 page fantasy series, you may as well read In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust.

>>808975
aight thanks, dont really get the reference but, i have both sitting on my desk in front of me, beside lotr trilogy and a few small novels this will be my first delve in the fantasy genre, i play dnd weekly though.

that isn't fantasy at all.

Op, you should read till book 6 get summaries of what happened until 10 and then continue reading. Jordan went to sleep for about 4 books in the middle. Its pretty good fantasy. Bits of it can drag, the hurr hurr gender dynamics and hilariously inept minibosses for example but overall its quite fun.

funnily enough yes. All of six of the the things.

Hell yea. The rabbit series was fuckin awesome. I love Updike.

>>808968

I actually read this when I was young(er). Back then, I had no idea what Objectivism was and I didn't care for the messages in the novels. The actual plot of the story was great.

That being said, I went back and read through some of them lately, and I realized how horribly bogged down with philosophical bullshit it is.

>> No.809000

>>808994
Oh come on, the plot was appalling. Of the six books I read the plot of three of the books was Richard gets kidnapped. That silly bastard gets captured more often than princess peach

>> No.809013

>>808991

Then you totally remember the time the narrator turned into a knight and Albertine turned into an elf and and they traveled through time to Sodom and Gommorah and fought the wizard Charlus in the Guermantes' dungeon? I think I remember Swann as the lovable anthropomorphic mascot.

>> No.809023

>>809000

Hm...you have a point. My memory of the books isn't that great, but lemme try to recount some of those times.

1. Captured by Darken Rahl / Denna and tortured
2. Captured by Sisters of the Light
3. Captured by Nicci
4. Captured by Jagang

I can only count 4 from all 10 books. But I'm prolly missing a point. Still, it was an enthralling plot for me when I was younger.

you forgot the bit where odette chops off gilbete's hand with a lightsaberand howls I am you mother

>> No.809036

In the first book bdsm chick captures in him, in the second one some nun captures him and in the sixth a hot nun kidnaps him. I'm sure there were a bunch of times kahalan got captured too but richard constantly getting sexually abused is just hilarious and I suspect a secret fantasy of goodkind's

>> No.809083

>>809025

Oh yeah. Francoise was bad ass as well. Although the narrator was pretty overpowered with his magical Madeleine DEM though.
