Hello there, /lit/

Sorry to borrow you folks. A while back, when this board first appeared, I remember some scans of the book "gamer girl" coming up. They looked abysmal, and I'm desperate to find them. If anyone happens to have them, I'd appreciate it if they could upload them to this thread.

While we're here, feel free to post any truly terrible books, and the reasons behind them.

>> No.808008

Twilight. Because Twilight.

>> No.808023

Twilight is a rather obvious one, though I have to admit I've never read it.

As a book-related side-note, I read a startling "statistic" (Though I doubt, given the source (A book by Charlie Brooker - 'The Hell of it All'), the legitimacy of this claim.) claiming that the most lied about book in terms of "I've read [x]" to impress potential partners is 1984. Hm.

>> No.808061

Bump. Sorry to have this corrupting /lit/, I'm just rather desperate to find them. It looked like possibly the worst novel I've encountered to date.

I also vaguely remember one involving some guy who went by the pen-name....I don't remember, something involving dark and night and each name. Pretty pathetic, and the book was horrific too.

You folks know what?

I actually enjoyed the Twilight comic.

WAIT. STOP. I AM NOT A TROLL. THERE IS A REASON.

If you've read Twilight the book, you know the narrative is terrible. Just, god-awful. It seems realistically like the mind of a 15-year-old girl, and that's the problem, especially when the world more or less conforms to the notion that she's perfect and desirable for no reason when she has the personality of a can of wet tuna.

But, the comic? Aside from being better drawn than most girly froo-froo shonen mangas out there, it excises the horrible narrative. All that's left is the dialog, which is only decidedly mediocre, and the artist's interpretation of the narrative. As it turns out, the artist is actually pretty damn good at making the world engrossing, and making the characters not simple repositories for our hatred by painting them as architypical romance animu tropes.

Basically, changing the presentation pulls it out of so-bad-it's-bad, into so-bad-it's-good. There's still a dog turd in there, but at least it's layered between a few slices of really nice looking chocolate cake.

Whoops, typo.

"Luce must spend her senior year at reform school after her boyfriend dies in a mysterious fire. She suspects that the dark shadows that have tormented her all her life had something to do with it. When she meets supernaturally gorgeous Daniel, she feels a familiar longing, making her believe they have met before. Although Cam is clearly interested in her, Luce only wants Daniel, who runs both hot and cold. He tries to keep Luce at a distance, telling her that the truth would kill her as it has many times before. The first chapter is gripping and foreshadows the supernatural elements to come. The plot revolves around lovers who find one another, only to lose one another over and over again in a story that spans centuries. Instead of vampires, though, these are fallen angels. Many elements are not resolved, such as the cause of the fire and why angels are at this school. Still, fans of supernatural romance will be lining up for this book despite its flaws, and begging for a sequel."

I like how there has to be a sentence with "Instead of vampires, though..." showing that the book is so similar that even a fan could notice it.

Authors trying to capitalise on the whole "twilight" success will stamp on any mythos. You know this to be true.
