"Socialist" means nothing where the Nazis were concerned. It was in the title to get certain sections of labour onboard. It worked in large part because the official Communist parties were being brainless mules for Moscow, and couldn't imagine that they, the liberals, and all of the working class would be crushed by an ascendent Nazi party.
