Do you believe books assigned during your educational development are worth revisiting as an adult?

Definitely. (pic related)

I hated The Giver when I read I read it in 5th grade, I found it disturbing. When I reread it during college I truly appreciated and understood it.

I'll probably hate Cry, The Beloved Country until the day I die though.

Sometimes, yes. I know that I hated Shakespeare and William Faulkner when I was forced to read them. I reread a few of their books on a whim a few years ago and I loved them.

Definitely.

Instead of teaching actual math, a math teacher once told us the final test for the year was a book we should read, and I loved it. Wonder what I'd think of it now, though.

It was "O Mandarim", by Eça de Queiroz.

It's actually worth looking to school required reading lists when making a list of books you intend to read. I would have completely forgotten works by Alexandre Dumas for my summer of adventure if I hadn't passed a table of required reading that had him on there at the library.

Portuguese lit is godawful. They got it right with Saramago but everything else could burn.

I used to think like you before I read it.

I've read it. Still not impressed.

Had to read for high school physics class, got bored and just stopped reading less than 1/3 through.

re-read last year, ohfuckshitbrix.gif

Some of them but some required reading seems like it's just trying to petrify children. What is Where The Red Fern Grows supposed to teach?
Don't love your pets because they'll die anyway?

I haven't read it again since it was assigned in school because of how trivial the plot seemed, is it worth it?

I've always wondered who comes up with required reading. The school district? The state board of education?
