And before that the majority of people were uneducated. A high literacy rate is a very recent thing.

The only thing that changed is that nowadays everyone thinks the know because of the Internet.

A "niche" simply means that something is popular. That it's not entirely retarded or inhuman. If you run away from anything that has a community then you got problems.

Books used to be the norm amongst the educated minority

Now they're the norm amongst the educated minority

The only difference is that we actually care about what the great majority of people think and do, nowadays. Same as it ever was in other regards.

>> No.797064

No, book reading in the sense you mean was never the norm, unless you mean "the norm among the educated, upper middle class."

And if you're suggesting no one reads today, Stephanie Meyer, Dan Brown, JK Rowling etc. would like to have a workd with you. Authors were never popular enough to become BILLIONAIRES until very recently.

Are you implying that it's MY FAULT?
What a dick.

>> No.797129

People read A LOT more today then they did in the past. If we are talking the last 70-80 years people may read less books but with the internet they read more.

>books used to be the norm

FAIL. Books were never the norm
