>talks about indian, japanese, chinese, even western christian wisdom

...idk why but all that mixture seems odd. can one truly attain something while mixing all that? shouldnt one choose one single way to fully develop it or, if one has done that with all of them, shouldnt one be able to create an original one?

Alan Watts is to Eastern thought what John Green is to history.

He was also a deadbeat alcoholic who abused his children.

Regardless of one's opinion of Watts, it isn't really all that strange a mixture. Buddhism evolved out of Hinduism (India) and still retains many of the philosophical features and ways of thinking, and the Chinese philosophy he discusses most is Taoism, which is closely related to Buddhism. As for Christianity, he mostly talks about it either in contrast to Buddhism et al or he talks about little parts of Christianity that mirror eastern thought, such Jesus claiming he is a son of God (watt claims that the original Greek simply says "a son of God," but I have no idea if that's true. So, all that to say: he doesn't really mix stuff together all that much, they're all pretty similar in how he talks about them.

As to your second question, yes I think something can be gained by combining religious philosophies. Obviously, there are elements of all the religions that are mutually exclusive and cannot merge coherently, but if you take wisdom from the finer points of their philosophies and just use that, I don't see how it could be problematic.

hey im reading stuff about him and i dont think i have crossed someone saying that the way he says it. everyone has to do it by implication, by saying something that will make you infer the nothingness... my mind is in a small shock, cause, if he is actually telling it directly it means it is something (even if im the one putting it there), and if he is not then what is he trying to convey by implication?

where can i find his books? there are only 2 on libgen and managed to find the another one on some french page.

OP I dont think it's odd at all. Why would someones personal 'belief system' fit exactly in someone elses interpretation of a religion, or why would you try to 'create' such a thing?

Watts is usually very pragmatic. He doesnt claim to be anything, he just 'entertains' (his words) with his insights. I found a lot of his audio programs soothing and insightful, even if i dont agree on everything he says.

yeah i get what you mean, but if one is gonna actually talk to people, give lectures, books etc i think one should systematize the thing a little bit, not just jump randomly from chinese to sanskrit to japanese not to mention concepts and ideas. i mean, if one is gonna keep it to oneself or talk with friends or randomly to people thats fine, but if one is gonna be a name publishing books and giving seminars one owes people some respect.

cause if you have some idea when he switches from prana to ch'i then thats fine, but if youre a working person paying for weekend spiritual lectures then what the fuck are you gonna do with that?

i mean, i enjoy his lectures too, its like talking to someone who is in the same self-transofrmation path. it is stimulating if one is in the same channel. but it can be confusing if not dangerous to those who are not.
