>mfw I saw someone in the last thread atheist vs. Christian circlejerk say that the Church preserved Plato's dialogues
Plato's dialogues were preserved in the Byzantine world, and studied by Muslim philosophers like Avicenna ("of the great commentary", in Dante's words). There was some influence through other Platonic philosophers on medieval Scholasticism, but never direct study or even knowledge of Plato's dialogues, aside from Timaeus. Those did not come to Western Europe until the 15th century, brought by Gemistus Pletho, a Constantinopolitan, who founded the Platonic Academy with Medici money, in which the dialogues were translated into Latin.

The lesson here is that even if you aren't going to think critically about your opinion and just pick a side and stick with it, don't embarrass yourself by standing on a high horse while you pull shit out of your ass that can be proven wrong by a few google searches.

"genius. just wonderful"
"a sheer delight"
"the insight is unparalleled"

You're about 100 years off anon. And even if Plato wasn't preserved in the west, neo-platonist ideas were still preserved and discussed through Augustine, Anselm and others.

Religion is a valuable transmitter of values and philosophy, especially religions of civilization like Christianity or Buddhism.
