Alright /lit/, lets do this. YA books you like, and why.

>> No.784958

The Uglies books. They're not awful and the world is engrossing.

>> No.784964

YA books are shit, and you shouldn't read them unless your 12 or younger.

The main character (can't for the life of me remember her name) was a bit annoying, I found myself questioning why she was making the choices she was.
But you have the whole world thing correct, the concept was fucking interesting. That's why I liked the 4th book the best.

Just recently read "Feed" after seeing a thread on /lit/ about it. I thought it was rather good and I enjoyed reading it.

>> No.785035

His Dark Materials, by Phillip Pullman. Obvious reasons. Also to a lesser extent The Aberhorsen Trilogy, by Garth Nix, for similar reasons.

>> No.785062

What's feed about?

>> No.785085

>>785005
Fuck yes, feed.

>> No.785091

John Green (only read one, seems like he repeats the same story)
His Dark Materials
The Hunger Games

>> No.785094

People getting stupid because they have this thing called the feed where they basically can look up anything and they are also bombarded with ads that lead them towards consumerism.

>> No.785099

Robert Cormier, bitches.

>> No.785124

Unwind. I cried like a bitch at the ending.

>> No.785134

>>785094
I will look that up, it seems interesting enough.

>> No.785143

The Dark Is Rising sequence, and the novels of John Bellairs.

Both are intelligent, excellently written fiction for young adults. Seriously, both authors are first-rate writers who happen to have been writing YA stuff.

>> No.785149

His Dark Materials
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Harry Potter
Abhorsen Trilogy

>> No.785151

I recently finished the roar, the story was good, and it had a female character I didn't hate.

>> No.785158

Abarat. Damn, clive barker can paint. Also, book three fucking where?

>> No.785377

>>785134
It's actually a lot more interesting than it sounds. I recommend "Feed" highly.

The only books that I read that would qualify as YA are Japanese light novels. My favorite is Twelve Kingdoms, and it's mostly about politics and war, so I don't think too many teens would even enjoy it.

>> No.785385

Percy Jackson and the Olympians was identical in story to Harry Potter (The first one at least, I haven't read the other 3 Percy Jackson Novels).
Think about it.

Average kid.
Finds out he has special powers.
Goes to school/camp for people like him.
Participates in sports and activities for kids like him.
Has fun.
Goes to vanquish evil antagonist.

>> No.785392

>>785385
Yeah. I actually liked it better, though. I'm uncertain why.

>> No.786134

I think I liked percy as a character a little more then harry. He was less of a whiner, and he actually got shit done a couple of times. Plus there were some mythology in jokes that were funny.

>> No.786142

It's true that I only read Howl's Moving Castle because of Ghibli but I was really surprised to discover what an enjoyable book it is (sooooo much better than the film). House of Many Ways by the same author was also good.

I thought I was on to something with DWJ but then I read the first two Chrestomanci novels and they were bad to terrible.

>> No.786144

The last apprentice series, not to be confused with the rangers apprentice. Some parts are actually pretty scary.

>> No.786151

>>786142
Oh man, I thought I was the only one. I loved the book. I also read the crestomanci world stuff and house of many ways, I like the way she writes.

>> No.786158

Comic books.
